SpeedX® is an extreme performance lubricant whose additives chemically react with metal surfaces and subsurfaces to reduce wear and provide the lowest coefficient of friction measurable. SpeedX lubricates better than products with PTFE. It gives long-lasting, heat-resistant lubrication, decreases wear and extends the useful life of treated items and parts. Skateboards, roller skates, chains and derailleurs operate smoother, quieter, with greater efficiency and last longer when treated with SpeedX.
SpeedX thrives under heavy loads and high temperatures! Other lubricating oils are displaced by moisture and pressure – so their effectiveness is diminished. Even under the best circumstances, other lubricants don't last (comparatively) very long. Not so with SpeedX! SpeedX Polar Bonds with metal and metal alloys and clings tenaciously like a magnet. SpeedX releases the surface tension of moisture, displaces it and maintains its fantastic lubricating capability. The exotic additive package in SpeedX is activated by heat, either external or internal (frictional heating), and causes the surface and subsurface of the metal to be modified. The modified surface becomes both smoother, allowing for the transition to hydrodynamic lubrication more easily, and intrinsically possesses a lower coefficient of friction.
SpeedX does not contain any corrosive chlorine or suspended solids such as PTFE, graphite or molybdenum disulfide. The three-dimensional graph below plots Load (x-axis) and Temperature (y-axis) in degrees F against the friction coefficient (z-axis). The friction coefficient is defined as the frictional force (perpendicular to the wear surface) divided by the applied load. The measurements taken in this example range from 2,000 psi to 40,000 psi in load and 75˚ to 300˚F.
Friction Coefficient vs Load and Temperature
This data is generated by a FALEX Block on Ring instrument. The instrument uses a block that is pushed against a rotating ring. The frictional force is measured as the block tries to move tangentially (sideways) due to friction. The friction coefficient of steel lubricated with light unadditized oil goes from near zero at low loads (parts held apart by an oil film or hydrodynamic conditions) to a very high coefficient of over 0.20 at high loads (full metal-to-metal contact or boundary conditions). Most good quality lubricants (including motor oils) tend to have boundary friction coefficients in the range of 0.15 to 0.18.
Increasing Temperature
Increasing Temperature Increasing the temperature of the lubricant decreases its viscosity thereby reducing oil film thickness and allowing boundary conditions to occur at lower load pressures. This causes the friction to increase. This is demonstrated on the red CorrosionX graph as the temperature goes from 75˚ to 300˚ F at a constant load of 2,000 psi. Under these conditions, even with a superlative lubricant like CorrosionX, the friction coefficient goes from 0.01 to 0.083. Under the same conditions, SpeedX's friction coefficient goes from 0.01 to only 0.02.
Increasing Load
The friction coefficient also goes up with increasing load at the low temperature 75˚F (this condition requires a lot of cooling). As load is increased, the lubrication state goes from hydrodynamic to full boundary conditions. The maximum friction coefficient for CorrosionX is 0.15 versus 0.08 for SpeedX. At high temperature, high load conditions, the friction coefficient is 0.14 for CorrosionX, but only 0.03 for SpeedX! This is the lowest coefficient of friction measurable on lubricated (but otherwise uncoated) steel.

The volatile organic content (usually abbreviated as VOC or VOCs) of SpeedX is now ZERO. Compare that to most products in the spray lubricant category, which can be 50% or more VOC (for example, according to their current Safety Data Sheet, WD-40 is 49.5% solvent). That means SpeedX is many times more gentle on you, your equipment and the environment.
